The Great Northern Tilefish (Lopholatilus chamaeleonticeps) is the largest species in the family Malacanthidae, reaching lengths up to 112 cm. It inhabits the continental shelf and submarine canyons along the U.S. Atlantic coast, dwelling in burrows excavated in soft sediment. As a benthic forager, it primarily feeds on invertebrates and small fish. This species is notable for its slow growth and long lifespan, with individuals living up to 35 years.
