The Trout Cod (Maccullochella macquariensis) is a large, predatory freshwater fish endemic to southeastern Australia. Closely related to the Murray Cod, it is recognised for its streamlined body, pointed head, and overhanging upper jaw. Trout Cod inhabit the upland rivers and creeks of the Murray-Darling river system, often preferring flowing water and rock shelters. This species is endangered due to habitat degradation and historical overfishing. Conservation efforts aim to restore its population in native waters.
